We have to be resolute in non-violent and peaceful protests for if not we will become as bad as those who inflict harm upon us

I am a supporter of peaceful protests, marches, rallies, sit-ins and other actions that bring the necessary attention of police abuses, brutality, shooting and killings of Black people. Those things need to be done and should continue. While being an organizer of adviser to others who are organizing I emphasize that we must be peaceful. We have gone to great lengths and efforts to inform everyone involved that we must be peaceful. Those who want to go another route we ask them to leave and we disassociate ourselves from them. It requires restraint and can even be difficult to hold back at times but we still have to be peaceful.

Today in my home city, of Brooklyn and neighborhood of Bedford Bedford-Stuyvesant, two police officers were murdered at point blank range as they set in their marked police car on Myrtle ave and Tompkins. The shooter said he did it in the name of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. I hope I am the first of many Black people in our community of Las Vegas and others that condemn this attack and will work to not have anymore. We should not support or harbor anyone who plans or is talking about attacking other Americans of any color, race or ethnicity.

It is not right, not necessary and will do more harm than good. The interesting thing about those revolutionaries always calling for war is that it is usually those weak of mind that do the dirty work while those pushing for it sit back and watch.
With a loud voice our people need to reject and denounce this immediately! I wonder if one of the officers were Black. Did either police officer executed, have anything to do with Eric Garner or Michael Brown’s deaths? What if the families of the two murdered officers decide to kill two random Black people in revenge for their loss and so on and so on? No, this isn’t right and it must end now.  As Americans and specifically Black Americans we have historically been a group of law abiding peaceful citizens even in spite of the ills this country has inflicted on us. This must continue as there are remedies to our situation that have nothing to do with violence. Violence to violence will only begat more violence. It must stop now on both sides for if not we can quickly and easily mimic Israel and the Palestinians.  If you have ever visited or spoken to those involved in that conflict you would know that it is a hell on earth with neither safe nor resolution to conflict imminent.

It is rare that I am in agreement with AL Sharpton but on this I agree:
The Rev. Al Sharpton released the following statement:
“I have spoken to the Garner family and we are outraged by the early reports of the police killed in Brooklyn today, Any use of the names of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, in connection with any violence or killing of police, is reprehensible and against the pursuit of justice in both cases.

We have stressed at every rally and march that anyone engaged in any violence is an enemy to the pursuit of justice for Eric Garner and Michael Brown. We have been criticized at National Action Network for not allowing rhetoric or chanting of violence and would abruptly denounce it at all of our gatherings. The Garner family and I have always stressed that we do not believe that all police are bad, in fact we have stressed that most police are not bad.”
