The Tree
By Jazz
Such inspirational thoughts come from an aging tree
Even if it reeks a stench, of a shameful history
If each tree could talk, what tales would they all tell
What secrets would be whispered or mysteries would dwell
What deeds would we hear spoken, that have never come to light
What testimonies stifled that folks dare not recite
What paths would we find taken amongst the grassiest range
What plans would end abruptly, or aspirations changed
If a tree could tell a story would humanity laugh or cry
If a tree performed a miracle what odds would it defy
Would light be thrust upon the land and turn the heavens gold
If a tree gave such conviction would mankind then behold
The art of such a simple shrub yet destined to reply
To questions of a history that begs to question why.
