Dr. Linda Young Clark County School Board Trustee District C, held her Community Education Connection meeting from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010, at the Seven Seas Restaurant and Lounge, 808 W. Lake Mead Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89106. Her intent is to share educational information while supporting businesses in the core of West Las Vegas where the history of Greater Las Vegas began. The group will continue to discuss ways to improve educational opportunities for all students who live in this and other areas of our community. We cannot afford to “Leave Any Child Behind” especially those with the least, Dr. Young stated. She discussed an update of “The VILLAGE” concept, Clark County School District On-line Educational Opportunities, Dropout Recovery Programs, and other educational strategies at the event. There was an opportunity for all to share their educational and community information with other guests. The Community Education Connection meeting is held monthly and is open to the public. Dr. Young gave a special thanks to Mr. Louis Conner for opening up his facility to her and the community. Other people recognized were Jo Cato of Periwinkle Media Group, Dr. Porter Lee Troutman, Director, Center for Multicultural Education UNLV, Dr. Sandra Owens Associate Professor & Hartford Faculty Scholar of Geriatric Social Work UNLV, Dr. Robert Green who worked for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as education director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Lynell Lucas author of, “My Son not the System,” and others.
